Natural Healing
|
Complementary medicine covers a wide range of therapies
which are intended to complement rather than replace orthodox
medicine. Treatments aim to stimulate the natural
healing ability in the body. Many different techniques
of treating a patient are based on systems practiced for
thousands of years, and can - in a way - be considered
as the original forms of medicine.
|
Complementary Therapies
|
The five main complementary therapies are: Acupuncture;
Osteopathy; Chiropractic; Homeopathy; and Herbal
medicine. By law, Chiropractic and Osteopathy
practitioners must be registered with the appropriate
professional bodies. Other forms of complementary
therapies include Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Tai Chi,
Colour therapy, Meditation, Relaxation and Breathing,
Magnet Therapy and Visulaisation.

Treatment
|
The WHO (World Health Organisation) has published lists
of many ailments that may be helped by Acupuncture and
traditional herbal medicines. These include Asthma,
Eczema, digestive disorders and headaches.
If you you would like to receive a complementary therapy
through the NHS you will need to be referred by a
doctor.
